Or is it room? When does it cease being a nursery? Anyway, I’m as done as I could be bothered being for now! You might remember this room used to be a whole lot bigger – it was an old garage the previous owners (badly) converted into a spare room. We divided it to create two small bedrooms for Zak and Layla and there is also a mini hallway, linen closet and bathroom. Lately, there has been a mattress on the floor in here as Zak has been camping out (due to “tickles” coming out of the walls of his room. We’re working on it…) But for photos, it was removed – so this is how the room looks minus Zak’s temporary bed! Once they’re settled properly I’ll probably add some shelves and some kind of storage unit under the window. But for now, this is it! I haven’t bought anything new for the room – everything was revamped or moved from another room; I love all her furniture so don’t see a reason to change it. Plus, you can make anything look prettier by putting some feathers or sequins on it! I think I it’s true to the original moodboard, yes? Let me take you on the tour.
The flock-of-birds were painted on the wall with stencils I made. I’d planned to do a few more but I’m happy with them as they are. I didn’t want all pink, so paired it with a sunny yellow – some of the birds, the birdhouse, the stripes on the side of the dresser. I moved one of the poufs into this room which is perfect for bedtime stories and feeding.
The “surprise” on the side of the dresser is just yellow and white stripes (apologies if you were expecting something a little more spectacular!). I love that pop of colour and pattern – you can see it from part of the living area so is a nice change to brown and beige! If the fabric handles don’t last long, I might pop the old ones back on and stencil the front with a Moorish, lattice or stripe pattern, but for now I love all the different patterns and colours – a kind of replacement “patchwork” to the old wallpaper fronts.
Oh eek, bad light here… Layla’s Belle & Boo collection (go here for why I love them so much and see the dresser in its old wallpapered state), plus a few other prints and bits and bobs. Her “L” is another DIY project and the paper bird is by Paper Couture.
This is pretty much the same from her first “room” – the frame was a mirror I had in my bedroom as a child that I painted white (I’m going to put the glass back in it I think) and the preggers tummy is my self-portrait (with some serious artistic licence) when I was pregnant with Layla. It’s an old canvas painted with chalkboard paint. The bunting is just a bunch of scrapbooking paper and wallpapers glued over a string and came from Zak and Layla’s old room.
Steve’s old teddy sits with a Pooh money box and a feathered showgirl headdress (which may have been worn more by me than anyone else in this house. Possibly.)
There is a box of toys and another of books under the cot and jammed between the cot and dresser, but under the window I leave out her dolly’s wooden cradle (it used to be pink with weird little flowers on it; I quickly dosed it in white paint) and a dress up box because we spend a lot of our time in fairy or angel wings, superman outfits and tutus. And when I say “we” I really do mean all four of us. LOVE dress ups and apparently, it’s rubbed off!
View from the door - seeing as the window takes up pretty much that whole wall, the tiny room is filled with light which I love. And I love the feel of her room. Zak dragged Steve in there today to show him Layla’s “boootiful drawers” after I finished painting the side and told me “Layla’s room is pretty; my room is cool.” I agree.
