For me. Maybe for single, childless me. But isn’t it just beautiful? Ahh, that carved plasterwork in my fave Moorish pattern is almost goosebump worthy. What a stunning (and permanent!) change from wallpaper. Of course, the pebbled stone floors, milky white palette, cosy fireplace, natural textures and Moroccan pouf all add to the aesthetic. As does the tea tray, butterfly chair, cow-hide-covered daybed, huge window. Is there anything not to like in this image?
I often see these ornate features from other worlds and fall for them and think of ways to incorporate them into my home - oooh i could do decorative plaster in my recessed shelves; I could do a pebble floor; I could turn the hallway doorway into an ornate arch; I could find antique carved Balinese wooden doors for the bedroom leading onto the deck. And then I remember I live in a 1950s fibro cottage in a coastal town in Australia. And it might just look… wrong. Too much mismatched inspiration on too big a scale. Steve is much worse (and his ideas usually involve bold colour which scares me.) So we file these pics and ideas away for a day raining money we can use to build our dream home, but I know we’ll never do them. Instead, I look for more subtle ways of introducing a look I love: pebble-coloured mosaic tiles above the bathroom vanity; white decorative-plaster-like pencil holders and vases; Balinese style wooden mirror; tile-patterned stencilled window…
As I said in the post below, if you choose exotic pieces in a simple white/neutral palette, it doesn’t matter what country the style is from, how ornate or how minimal it is, chances are you can make it work with the rest of your decor. Which means you can borrow a look you might love but know you can’t live with by shrinking the concept down and changing the colour to suit your style. And it makes you feel more satisfied that your drooling and image saving is not entirely a waste of time.
Can you think of ways you’ve been inspired to scale down a look to make it fit your home/style/decor? What did you do?

wow – I love the detail too – I’m a detail chick all the way!
I thought a screen which replicated that wall would be lovely… maybe find a wallpaper with a similar look for the back of the shelves?
Maybe do a small room (bathroom or laundry) in that style…?
This is such a gorgeous pattern. Maybe this could work in my work space…with all the whites! So happy to have meet you on BYW. Have a lovely merry happy day and love to yoU!
