Poor Immy. Room is a complete overstatement. She has a cot and now a few things stuck above it on the wall. In fact, the bigger she grows, the less space she has to call her own! The cradle has been outgrown (more so because she would stand up in it and rock and almost fall out) and swapped for a cot (Ikea Sniglar) so I now need to walk sideways like a crab to get into bed, which is directly in front of it. To be honest though, she doesn’t use the cot much – she’s in there for a few hours at night and then when she wakes up the first of her million and one wake-ups at night time, I give up on trying to get her back in there and let her sleep with us. I’ll do what I can to get a decent sleep!

I realise I’ve barely posted anything from this place – there are various reasons. I haven’t really done anything to make it look decent because I keep thinking of it as temporary and I also have no time and patience and energy for much these days. But that is a whole other post. Until we get our own place (we’re working on it!), I am going to try and get myself together again and finish all my half-finished projects take some pictures! I figured Immy’s space was one to start because I’d dragged in the dot garland into our room for Steve’s birthday last week and liked how it looked on the wall so thought I’d use it in Immy’s little wall collection of things that were piling up on the floor!
This garland was made with a half-inch circle punch and a variety of scrap papers all randomly stitched together. The smaller the circle, the longer it takes to do (obviously) but also the more you can get away with any kind of papers as the patterns and colours are so small they all kind of work together. Magazines or catalogues would work too.
My great aunty made the angel picture – I’m not sure what the craft is called. Anyone know?! I made the flowers from tissue paper – the teal is three flowers from these instructions tied together. The white and grey ones are from crepe paper made with the same instructions as the tissue paper pom poms just all puffed to one side so the back is flattish. Actually, I feel the pom poms would look better made from crepe paper – also easier and a little less delicate and won’t tear as easily.
And so – there was no real plan with the space. I was gifted the two frames and they happened to be blues/teals and combined with the colours on the blanket my Nana had made for Immy and the colour of the sheet on my bed, I decided blues/teals were a good option! I love this colour so much – even more on girls and in a girly space. I want to add to the wall – I have a tiny pair of ballet shoes to stick on the wall (if I can find them first!!) and I want to do a whole heap more different flowers as though they’re floating away. I can’t put anything heavy above her actual cot, so I think the flowers will eventually move over there – they won’t hurt if they fall off the wall!!! I don’t even think they’ll give her a paper cut! haha.
My Nana knitted this blanket for Immy and I just adore it. Perfect colours, the chevron that I love (though I will admit to being slightly over the whole chevron thing now – also another post!), and great size. It kept Immy warm all winter (and summer – remember when summer in Sydney was HOT!?!) It’s actually got more pinks at the other end (below) – I think she said she ran out of pink while making it and actually apologised for it not being perfect, but I think it IS perfect. I just love it and if I thought she could handle it, I’d beg her to make a huge one (diff colours) for my bed!

So there is Imola Gramola’s little corner. I can’t bring myself to show a pulled-back shot of the whole room because it was so incredibly messy – but here is an idea of where it is in relation to my bed – close, right!?

And here are some of Immy in her cot. It made a nice change to attempting to take pictures with her attached to my hip. She didn’t think so though…. cranky pants!!
Wow, I managed to outdo myself – such a ridiculous amount of images for such a tiny space! I just hope she gets her own room soon – I love creating kids spaces. I think they’re my favourite!

it may be small but its still cute!
thanks sweets! x
Wow, she is so big already! We are trying to make room for a new bub in a tiny corner of my 5 year old Son’s room. It is certainly a challenge. Oh to have more space…
that last picture is priceless…. sweet feisty girl and her space looks great! XO. T
What a sweet little corner for a little miss who is getting so big! She is just adorable… cranky and all!
I totally know what you mean about getting a good night’s sleep. I was so strict with my first two, but by my third I didn’t care what it took to just sleep a little! LOL!! She will outgrow it before you know it! I wish you the best as you continue to find a more permanent place to live. I know that can be very tiring and taxing. Hugs from Copenhagen!
Great post Immy has the makings of a rockstar! Paper garland and flowers are lovely
We’re the same at the moment! Our baby daughter Astrid sleeps here http://beautifulsquarefeet.blogspot.com/2012/01/where-astrid-sleeps.html
at the moment, and will do until we’ve cleared out this http://beautifulsquarefeet.blogspot.com/2012/01/our-black-hole.html
space for her brother Torin to move into (which is taking forever!).
That garland is ever so sweet Belinda!
and speaking of captain cranky pants, perhaps Immy And Elliott should catch up for coffee…. good LORD!! Cute space, Belinda and Im sort of jealous of the rug. Handmade is delectable any which way, and Immy will one day gift that rug to her own little babushka. Love…
Oh I totally know where you are coming from. My Daughter’s cot is in our room, she’s five months and I’ve had enough already so hubby and I have moved to the sofa-bed in the lounge for the time being! I have a box of lovely bits for when Missy has her own room – but unlike clever you, haven’t quite got round to creating a space for her yet in ours. Must do soon!
It is so remarkable what an impression a cropped photo leaves. My eyes were opened when I scrolled down and saw the expanded photo.
I think you’ve created a lovely little “nook” for Immy.
Kate
thank you all!
rebecca – have fun creating a space for her!
anna – i actually thought about moving our bed into the living room and letting zak and layla have our room (with their own courtyard) and immy have their smaller room. we’re out here all the time anyway… but then i’d feel like i was living in a hotel. and i wouldn’t be able to escape my husband staying up to watch sport or play music on a weekend!!! I can’t handle music playing when i sleep!!!!
I really like your blog:) Great pics and so much inspiration…I wish you a lovely weekend.

oh, she’s ADORABLE!
Gorgeous colours and great pix. Im so glad Immi is bunking with you guys our 14 month old son has a cot in the corner of our room and although Ive prettied it up I still feel guilty that he doesnt have his own four walls. He is also only in his cot a few hours before he takes up a whole queen size bed anyway!
Hi Belinda,
Lovely to see the Dala Horse print in Immy’s room. Her room is as adorable as she is! She looks like she might be a bit of a climber… look at how she is trying to lift her leg up!

Hi. Immy’s space is lovely! love the blanket on cot it is perfect. The angel picture looks like it could be shadow embroidery where the coloured thread is stitched on the underside of fabric casting a shadow effect from the front is this what it looks like in real life? Hope this helps.
You’re on your way to creating Immy another fantastic space. I love the dot garland. WHERE did you get your circle punch? I’ve been looking for a little while now (clearly not in the right places!). Hope you get your room to yourself soon, and that Miss I decides to sleep through for you.

Seaweed & Raine – thanks! i got the punch from Riot Art & Craft supplies. It was about $3! It’s only really small – 1/2 inch. I also have a Martha Stewart 1-inch punch which was from ebay.
