distractions…

So, I kinda fell under a giant big pile of life stuff and just found my way back out of it. So apologies for my absence. There have been some serious distractions lately: like work and reno work and naughty child (although he appears to be back to being good. touch wood), clingy child (still clingy…), a new toy (Crack, erm, Blackberry), a NIGHTMARE tenant who has made selling our investment total hell (but has been evicted), some serious sleep deprivation, a bit of stress, painting, more painting AND MORE PAINTING to come, a huge playgroup at my parents’ preschool with my sisters, our friends and all their children (SO much fun), some serious sourcing for a photoshoot, and then the actual shoot yesterday…. I’m so tired. Oh and then just when I think things can’t possibly get busier or more annoying, this happens one chaotic evening just before dinner time, aka Craziest Time Of The Day:

paint

Zak accidentally knocked a tin of unopened ridiculously bright purple paint off the table where it landed on the floor, opened itself and spilt all over my newly painted black floors. I managed to scoop up as much as possible, and wipe it all up with all the baby wipes, paper towel and tissues in the house with one hand while fending off a screaming, tired and now purple-paint-covered Layla with the other hand, and Zak and his toy truck with my foot. All the while giggling hysterically because as peed off as I was, it was still kinda funny. Well, it wasn’t, but then Zak kept telling “it’s awwriight mummy, don’t worry about it”. Bless him.

In case you’re wondering what the heck such a colour is doing in my house… Steve gave me a bit of a wake-up call again when I started protesting about coloured feature walls in the kids new rooms and “Steve’s” new room. It was something along the lines of: “you’re not the only person who lives here”. Fair enough. So… he wanted a rich “Roman” purple, he wanted Zak to have a rich “superman” blue and Layla a sunny yellow. I came back from the hardware store with 25 rich purples and 35 different hues of decent blues (with superman safely left in the paint-swatch rack). No yellows – yellow walls and I don’t get along. Just ask my mum whom I demanded buy me a tin of white paint when she painted the entire house yellow when I was a kid… Steve picked this purple out right away. I said not a word… If I had, I’d have been accused of deliberately sabotaging the paint tin to fall or something…

Anyway, much to my delight, Zak takes after me: “i don’t want blue walls; only white walls awriiiigt?”. But when I showed him all the colours he picked out a few faves and we ended up choosing a really dark tealish/turquoise blue. I was happy with the choice but horrifed when I saw the first patchy coat. Am pleased to say it looks much better now and has grown on me. I’ll make it work! As for Layla’s room – I have lots of ideas swirling around my head, so hopefully one will stand still long enough for me to develop it! Yellow will be involved only it won’t be a whole wall of it unless it’s the Cow Parsley wallpaper. Which I know it won’t be!

In the meantime… tomorrow I’ll show you their current room that they’ll be moving out of so very soon. And now? Now I wish I could say I was going to bed but I’m going to do some work. Dammit!

that paint on the floor immediately reminded me of my current walls, with artistic 2yo texter all over them!

it’s up there with cleaning vomit and poo, when everyone (kids) wants to get involved and they can’t quite understand why you don’t want them to!!

Maybe Steve needs a nice piece of upholstered furniture in his chosen shade, or even a huge lampshade, even a rug. This was definately someone, somewhere trying to tell you something!!!

Looking forward to seeing the kids rooms. I too am looking to split a room so would love some ideas.
