If you’re itching to do some DIY this holiday break, here are a few of my fave projects I came up with this year. I have some ideas for next year – let’s hope I find the time to do them (and let’s hope I don’t run out of ideas! ha!). So if you get busy and try one of these – or have already - send me a pic; I love seeing your interpretations and will blog them next year. For a few more easy projects, go here for the whole craft category, and here for projects (some will overlap). Happy crafting!
WHIP UP SOME PAPER LEAVES
It’ll take you a whole 10 minutes, cost you practically nothing, will pretty up a little corner of the room AND put to use one of the numerous vases you have lying around with nothing in it. Go here for a how-to.
PAINT A SILHOUETTE MURAL
This one got a mixed reaction around the blog world, but I still love it. More importantly, my kids loved it too. Here is some info on what I did.
MAKE A MAGNETIC/FELT/CHALKBOARD ACTIVITY STATION
This one is in the middle of our kitchen and it gets LOTS of love. For all the info, go here.
MAKE YOUR OWN MAGNETS
So, there is such a thing as magnetic paper. And it’s awesome. Here are a few magnets I made (and also the alphabet letters in the above post). Here is info on how to and where to get it.
MAKE SOME MINI PHOTO ALBUMS
Good old scrapbooking paper – what would we do without it? Here’s how to turn a sheet of pretty paper, some thread and some old manila folders into albums. Go here for instructions.
MAKE YOUR OWN STENCILS
And then go forth and stencil – the wall, furniture, ceiling, doors – heck, even windows! I have, here (although I didn’t make that stencil myself). Head here for instructions on how to DIY like the birds, above.
MAKE PERSONALISED GIFT WRAP
All you need is a computer, windings and a printer. So easy and so effective. Go here for instructions.
MAKE OVER A DESK & CREATE A WALLPAPER PATCHWORK
… on a desk top, drawer front, chair seat, door - wherever you have a flat surface that needs glamming up a little. My sister is going to do her filing cabinet front. Go here for info about the desk before/after, andhere for for wallpaper-patchwork instructions and a link to free wallpaper samples.
MAKE A MATCHBOX ADVENT CALENDAR
Oh, ok I know Christmas is over, but I really enjoyed this one. You could do if you wanted to be REALLY organised for next year… But I think you could adapt it for a count down to “big school”. Maybe you could make the little boxes into the shape of a school house or suitcase. And could fill the insides with erasers, pencil sharpeners and little pouches with canteen money or shopping vouchers to go and buy the uniform or school books that day. Might help if your child is a little nervous about starting school…
So, which was your fave? And did you try any? Or plan to? And if you did, do my instructions make sense? Are they simple enough? Share all here! x
PS: Don’t forget to vote for me in the Homies. You can do so here – and thanks in advance if you do! x
