doubled up

Look familiar? I was thrilled when Danielle emailed me to say she’d been inspired by the black mural in the kids (old) room (below) and was doing something similar in her daughter’s room. I bugged her to share the end result and here it is! Isn’t it great? Apparently her daughter, Charlotte, loves her new room and so did my husband. In fact, he liked it better than mine. I think his words were “it’s good to see someone improved on your idea.” Gee thanks, babe! Ha! A quick turn around though “I meant, her trees are better than yours.” And they are, too!

Danielle also has a question: she stripped back the bed to paint white and now can’t decide if she likes the distressed look better. So, what do you think? Paint it white? Leave it slightly distressed?

Thanks for sharing, Danielle. I think you did a great job. And also? You’ve entered the “cooler than thou” realm (see comments)! And on that, thank you for everyone who emailed me. I wasn’t upset about it all, I found it rather funny. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, it just makes me giggle at how some are given less tactfully than others!

wow, theyre both soooo fantastic! i wish i could have a kid now just to do their room like that!!!

anyone have suggestions for other black/dark coloured paint for a lounge room?
i love this look but will probably want the whole wall done one colour!.

    thanks

    Ooh, I likey!

I also like the distressed bed. I think the white might be a little flat. The wood brings a warmth to the scene, and looks lovely with the lamp bases – they tie together, but aren’t matchy-matchy!

Rosie – I agree. I think it looks cool as is. maybe leave it a while and then if you tire of it, paint it?

Miss Mellie – I once painted my living room a really dark chocolate brown wall called Dulux Cafe Noir (I think it was dulux). I really loved it but the room just felt really dark because of the dark-brown furniture and black floors so we went a lilac stone (really, really bad idea) then finally white like the rest of the of house. I sometimes am tempted to do it again, but the wall will probably fall over from too many paint layers! haha

I really like both, they are a little bit gothic almost – seem to remind me of tim burton animation – this isnt a bad thing I love his movies!
I would probably go white wash so you still get the life & character of the timber. I guess its almost an in between look!

OMG, I just read those comments! Blimey, some people are a little tightly wound when it comes to interiors, aren’t they? Chill out, go paint your “clear gender-neutral brights” and let other people do what they want!!

I love both nurseries. You girls are so clever. They make me think of fairytales – great for the imagination and storytelling!
